Phelps new assistant coach for FMS girls' basketball program
T'Essence Phelps has joined Fayetteville Middle School’s girls’ basketball program as assistant coach.
Before making her way to FMS, she was in Houston, Texas, pursuing entrepreneurship as a fitness business owner, Fit To The T, LLC.
Phelps played at Lincoln County High, Class of 2010, where she was an impactful player for three years and holds a couple rebound records. She got recruited by LaSalle University (Division 1) in Philadelphia, Pa., straight out of high school; however, she transferred her first year to Kentucky Wesleyan College (Division 2) in Owensboro, Ky.
While playing at KWC for only three years, Phelps received a conference championship, holds single-season and career rebound records, made the all-defensive team her junior year, and was a 2010 Oak and Ivy Inductee.
Coach T has a bachelor's degree in psychology from KWC. Phelps will graduate in December 2022 with her master's degree from Capella University in psychology with an emphasis in sports. Shortly after, Coach T will pursue her Ph.D. in Holistic Sport Psychology.
Phelps is also a certified personal trainer, certified level 1 stretch practitioner, and certified strength and conditioning specialist. She focuses on strength, conditioning, and mental performance with the kids in the community, her FT3 Elite program.
Coach T's overall goal is to help student-athletes transition to each level of play, enhance their mental skills, and incorporate life skills.
"It's been a true blessing to be back in my hometown and give back! This has always been a dream/goal to help the kids in the community reach their dreams, just like my coaches helped me,” she said.
