FCS to serve free school meals
Fayetteville City Schools is pleased to announce the district will participate in the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) during the 2022-2023 school year, providing meals at no charge for all students.
“Fayetteville City Schools is thrilled to be able to provide free breakfast and lunch to all of our students,” said Bill W. Hopkins, Jr., director of Fayetteville City Schools. “The CEP is such a huge benefit for our Tigers – we all know that when students’ nutritional needs are met, children have better attendance, are more attentive in class and have fewer disciplinary problems.”
CEP is a non-pricing meal service option for school systems, allowing schools to serve breakfast and lunch at no cost to all enrolled students without collecting household applications. Instead, schools that adopt CEP are reimbursed using a formula based on the percentage of students categorically eligible for free meals based on their participation in other specific means-tested programs, such as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF).
While students will be able to eat breakfast and lunch free of charge, all adults, including visitors, teachers, support staff members and administrators, must assume the full cost of the meal.
