City passes resolution honoring state champs

The Fayetteville Board of Mayor & Aldermen recently passed a resolution honoring the accomplishments of the 2020 Fayetteville High School Tiger football team, which claimed the program’s first 1A State Football Championship.

The resolution reads, “Whereas, it is appropriate that the members of this Board of Mayor and Alderman should honor those citizens who have performed with uncommon commitment and have achieved exceptional success in their areas of focus; and

“Whereas, the Fayetteville High School Football Team, is one such estimable group who also won the Region V Division 1 Class a Championship; and

“Whereas, the 2020 Fayetteville High School Tigers Football Team, having successfully held a defensive fourth and goal stand in each of the five playoff games for a total of five, maintaining a plus fourteen turnover margin on the year, and having scored 372 total touchdown points, with a game average of 24.8 touchdown points per game. They recorded 4,456 total yards with 3,144 of those being rushing yards, 297 average yards per game, and only allowed 174 total touchdown points scored by other teams for an opposing team average of  11.6 touchdown points per game; and

“Whereas, Fayetteville High School completed the season with a 20 to 14 hard fought victory in the championship game over a heavily favored team, and had 7 team members who were named All District, one player who was named Regional Lineman of the Year, one player who was named Regional Co-Back of the Year, five players named to the Tennessee Football Coaches Association Division 1 Class 1A All-State Team, and the Most Valuable Player of the TSSAA Division 1 Class A State Championship Game, and

“Whereas, the 2020 Fayetteville High School Tiger Football Team completed their season with a 13 and 2 record and a two year record of 23 and 2; and

“Whereas, the Fayetteville High School Football Team exemplifies the spirit, character, dedication, and commitment to excellence for which we should all strive, the Fayetteville Mayor and Board of Alderman are pleased to recognize them at this time; now, therefore,

“Be It Resolved, by the Board of Mayor and Aldermen that we extend to each of the members of the 2020 Fayetteville High School Football Team our sincerest wishes for their continuing success academically and athletically.”
