Why Should You Get Involved?
-
PARENT INVOLVEMENT
Ralph Askins Elementary School encourages its parents and families to get involved in the school environment. Research shows that there is a direct correlation between parent involvement and student academic success. Ralph Askins provides a variety of avenues to involve parents in the school environment.

How Do I Get Involved?
-
Parent Surveys
A Parent Survey is provided (see the link on our homepage) to allow parents the opportunity to share ideas, rate aspects of the school, select involvement areas, and determine funding. Here are a list of activities where you can become involved!

FALL BLAST!
This day is designed to bring families together for fun and games! Teachers work the booths and involve families in games where students win prizes and compete against one another. This is always a lot of fun for the kids. The night ends with a delicious Chili Supper!

Parent Involvement Committee
At the beginning of each year during the first PTO meeting, we encourage parents to submit interest in serving on our Parent Involvement Committee. This committee reviews the parent involvement plan, makes changes and additions to the plan, and reviews the Family-Teacher Compact. This committee is instrumental in planning activities for the year and determining best practices to reinforce parent involvement at Ralph Askins.

Parent-Teacher Conferences and Community Night
Parent-Teacher Conferences provide an intimate time for parents to take a sneak peek into the classrooms to see what their student is learning. It also provides a time for teachers to share individual student work as well as assessment data with parents. This year, we combined a community resource element where parents could take a stroll to different booths set up in the lunchroom that provided a multitude of family resources. Some of these resources included:
- Local Churches
- Clothe Our Kids
- Centerstone
- The Public Library
- Motlow and TCAT
- Powerschool Training
- TNReady Score Reports
- Junior Pro Basketball
- Hands of Mercy
- Junior's House
- Foster Grandmothers

Muffins and Memories
This is a special day designed to involve our Grandparents in the school environment. Grandparents are encouraged to go into the classrooms and share something special from their pasts. This could be an artifact, a story, or even pictures! This year, we had over 400 parents attend!
Muffins and Juice are provided as well as a student performance.
