Criminal Justice

Fayetteville High School Criminal Justice offers students detailed insight to the American criminal justice system.  Many of the students that take this class are interested in pursuing a career in law or law enforcement.  These classes are beneficial to all, in that it is our obligation as citizens to understand the law and our individual rights.  At some point in our lives, each of us will have contact with the criminal justice system as a juror, witness, minor traffic offender, or possibly as a victim of crime.

Criminal Justice offers three levels: CJ 1 Introduction, CJ 2 Criminology, and CJ 3 Forensics.  Upon successful completion of all three classes, a student may graduate having obtained a concentrator in criminal justice.

Students interview The First 48! investigators

Fayetteville High School Criminal Justice students had an amazing opportunity to interview and ask questions directly to the homicide investigators featured on A&E’s The First 48!

As part of the experience, students watched an episode of the show and then had the opportunity to speak with the actual detectives who worked the case. Students were able to ask questions about the investigation, the challenges detectives face, what it takes to become a homicide investigator, and what happens behind the scenes of a real homicide investigation.

“Experiences like this allow our students to connect what we learn in the classroom to real-world criminal justice careers,” said Drew Ivey, Criminal Justice teacher at FHS.
