AV Production

About Our Program

At Fayetteville High School, the Audio/Visual (A/V) Production program is structured to equip students with the skills necessary for careers in media production. This program is typically divided into three sequential courses: A/V Production I, II, and III.  The Audio Visual classes focus on bringing the news and announcements to Fayetteville High School students and staff as well as the community through their Tiger News Today broadcasts.  These students gain in the field experience with interviews, special clips with the FHS student body, and special projects that are collaborated with other programs and sports teams in our school.

A/V Production I: This foundational course introduces students to the basics of the production process, encompassing pre-production, production, and post-production phases. Students gain hands-on experience with cameras, audio equipment, and other essential production tools. The curriculum also covers the history and evolution of A/V production, career exploration, and legal considerations in the industry. Throughout the course, students begin compiling a portfolio to showcase their work.

A/V Production II: Building upon the first course, A/V Production II delves deeper into technical skills, emphasizing advanced use of lighting and audio equipment. Students engage in more complex projects, both individually and collaboratively, enhancing their understanding of the industry's business aspects, including ethical and legal issues, technological advancements, and organizational structures. The course continues to stress the importance of portfolio development.

A/V Production III: As an applied-knowledge capstone course, A/V Production III prepares students for professional careers or further education in A/V production. Students undertake comprehensive projects that require them to plan, coordinate, capture, edit, and distribute media content. The curriculum includes studies on industry policies and regulations, media distribution strategies, and live event production. Students are encouraged to participate in work-based learning experiences and continue refining their professional portfolios.

Throughout these courses, students develop a robust understanding of the A/V production field, blending technical proficiency with insights into the industry's legal and ethical frameworks.

FHS Media and Fayetteville Tiger Sports Network are responsible for the Fayetteville Middle School and Fayetteville High School football, basketball, and some baseball streamed games as well.  Students help with the sports stream by interviewing coaches and players, operating the camera, setting up computers and equipment, and preparing graphics and commercials ahead of time for the game broadcasts.  One hundred percent of the funds raised from the commercials sold for the sports broadcasts go to the FHS media program and help provide opportunities for students to use state of the art equipment and take advantage of software and computers that will prepare them for the media field.
