    FHS was awarded 2nd placed in their division for their participation and hard work for "Be In the Zone" this year. Several of our students attended the banquet. FHS was awarded $1000.00 in prize money for their efforts. Students presented Mr. Jones with a plaque and trophies from the event.

    FHS hosted the annual Criminal Justice Competition with Franklin County High School. CTE Director Rujena Dotson and Mrs. Dana Moon catered the event (THANK YOU!). Sheriff Murray Blackwelder and LCSD brought the DUI Simulator for all students, to encourage them to make good decisions on prom night.

    Criminal Justice completed a fundraiser last year by selling CJ tee shirts, monkey-fist key chains, and tactical para-cord bracelets. C.J. was able to obtain a serial number restoration kit, a new latent print kit, a magnetic latent print kit, and commercial/forensics quality casting material for footwear impressions. Thank you to everyone that purchased or donated to our C.J. Studies program. 02/23/17

    On 11/11/16, Student Government Association, Journalism, Advanced Placement U.S. History, and selected Criminal Justice students went to the public square to honor our veterans in the veterans' parade. Students from Ralph Askins lined the opposite side of the street. It was a great Tiger "turnout" to give tribute to those who protect our freedoms.

    Lincoln Co. Sheriff's Department, through the FHS CJ Dept., in cooperation with the Governor's Highway Safety Office, presented "Think Fast Interactive". This program offered the entire student body and faculty the opportunity to compete in a fun game show setting, involving pop culture, distracted driving, and impaired driving. Several students won gift cards for their participation and knowledge. FHS would like to thank Sheriff Murray Blackwelder, Lt. Jeff Bradford, Mrs. Sandy Metcalf, the LCSD, and the GHSO for bringing this program to our students.

    Our CJ students, at all levels, contributed to the creation of a body farm on campus. CJ 3 students are enabled to study the aspects of forensics related to body decomposition (animals only/not humans), ballistics, cause of death, and forensic entomology. This curriculum project has been in the making for two years in order to accumulate necessary resources, at no cost to the school, parents, or students. FHS Criminal Justice looks forward to offering this block of curriculum for many years to come!

    FHS CJ hosted the 2015 CJ Competition against Franklin County High School. Events included: public speaking/essay, exemplar fingerprinting, latent fingerprinting, casting footwear impressions, SFST, and adult and infant CPR. Afterwards, FHS CJ hosted lunch for all competitors and judges. This was a great opportunity for our students to fellowship and network with CJ students from Franklin County High School.

    FHS C.J. students competed at Franklin County High School. Events included public speaking, latent finger printing, exemplar fingerprinting, plaster casting, and CPR. Keynote speaker was Chief Dennis Young, Winchester Police Department. We appreciate F.C.H.S., Instructor: Jimmy Daniel, and the F.C.H.S. C.J. students for lunch and their hospitality!

    Ballistics/Body Armor Study: CJ 3 Forensics

    CJ3 Body decomposition study also incorporated a study of ballistics/body armor. Off campus testing was filmed by the instructor. Students will document and make conclusions by comparing damage to body armor, as well as, striations and deformities of bullets. Hopefully all videos will eventually be compiled into one documentary, created by CJ students.

    CJ III students work through a group activity of taking "latent" fingerprints from an object. They take "exemplar" prints from a group of suspects. The goal is to determine which person's print was on the object.

    Thanks to a generous donation from one of our parents, Mr. Kevin Keele, and the firm where he works, Fraley & Hill, Attorneys At Law, FHS CJ received a government surplus, Morphotrak electronic fingerprint machine and comparison work station. FHS CJ & IT is currently attempting to locate software to allow students to have access to state of the art technology in CJ classes. A huge thanks to Mr. Kevin Keele, Mr. Ray Fraley, and Mr John Hill!

    Fayetteville Police Explorers assisted the Fayetteville Police Department with the Slawburger Festival on the public square on April 16th, 2016. Explorers were also allowed a "ride-along" with officers on this date, to get an understanding of the responsibilities and obligations of law enforcement officers, while on patrol.

    CJ 1 students toured the L.C.S.D. and Jail. The jail was recently expanded. Students were able to see the daily operations of the facility and some were allowed to shoot "less than lethal" rubber bullet rounds at targets in an empty cell block. A special thanks to Sheriff Murray Blackwelder, Asst. Jail Administrator David Ford, Sgt. Vicki Afisov, and the staff for allowing us to visit. We appreciate your time, information, and hospitality!
