Ralph Askins Elementary

Title I School-wide School

Ralph Askins Elementary School qualifies for Title I funding under the Federal No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB) of 2001.  This funding provides an enriched and accelerated educational program in order to help students master the challenging state content and performance standards and helps ensure high standards for all students. We have been designated a school-wide Title I school for the 2008-2009 school year.

Since our school is a School-wide Title I School, all students reap the benefits from Title I funding.  This year, Title I will help fund the salaries of four Reading teachers and two educational assistants that will work hand in hand with each homeroom teacher to provide intensified reading instruction.  These teachers will be involved in providing assistance with the regular program through various means such as, but not limited to, small group instruction; delivering reading lessons to the whole class using a variety of teaching methods; and offering enrichment activities to all students as opportunities arise.  Title I funds will also provide new technology equipment, teacher in-services, instructional materials and supplies, as well as a part-time technology coordinator that will assist teachers in the utilization of the computer lab.

A very important component of a Title I school is parent involvement.  Research shows beyond dispute that when schools work together with their families to support learning, children tend to succeed not just in school, but throughout life.  Parents will be invited to serve on the school’s Parent/Guardian Advisory Team.  These parents will work with the school’s Leadership Team and be responsible for revising and updating the Parent Involvement Policy.

**If you have any comments, questions, or input about the Title I Program, please feel free to contact your child’s teacher or Mrs. Sandy Stout, our Title I Supervisor.  She can be reached at the Fayetteville City Board of Education, 433-5542.
