Day 1 - All of us are part of a community

1.     Follow this link Research and inquiry worksheet print research and inquiry worksheet.

2.    Click on

Neighborhood 

3.    Today you are going to research the post office, fire station, and the police station.  Begin by clicking on the picture of the post office and reading the text that accompanies it.  As you are reading think about the main idea of the text.  On an index card write a summary of two to three sentences including the main idea of your reading.  Do the same thing for the fire station and the police station.  At the end of day 1 you should have three summaries on three different index cards.  Make sure that your name is on each summary.

Day 2 – Are you ready to learn more about communities?

4.    Make sure you have your research and inquiry sheet.

5.    Today you are going to research the hospital and home .

6.    Just as you did on day 1 you are going to write summaries including the main idea of the hospital and home.

7.     At the end of day 2 you will have two index cards to turn in as your pass out of class.  Don’t forget you name. 

Day 3 – Here we go again.

8.    Make sure that you have your research and inquiry sheet again. 

9.    Today you are going to research the school and library.

10. Just as you did on day 2 you are going to write summaries including the main idea of the school and library.

11.  At the end of day 3 you will have two index cards to turn in as your pass out of class.  Don’t forget you name. 

Day 4 – What did you learn?

12.  After researching all of the different parts of this community, what do the post office, fire and police station, hospital, school, and library all have in common.  Who provides these services for us? 

13. Why is our government so important?  Follow this link to help you answer this question government.

Day 5 – Create a community by drawing and labeling at least 4 different aspects.  Example – you may create an imaginary or fictitious community and include 4 of the following: post office, fire station, police station, hospital, home, school, and/or library.
