A LETTER OF WELCOME FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Dear Parents,

Welcome to the 2009-2010 school year.  We are proud that you have chosen to attend Ralph Askins School.  The administration and the staff are committed to reaching all students in our building by teaching them to believe in themselves and do their best at all times.

Ralph Askins School is a community school with a rich tradition and heritage.  It was originally known as Charlie Bagley School and opened it doors to serve this community in the Fall of 1958.  I was a second grader at that time and am proud to say that I was part of the first group of students to attend this school.

In May of 2006, we completed our five-year study for the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools/Council on Accreditation and School Improvement.  Our visiting team had no findings, and in all areas, gave us the highest rating possible –“exemplary”.

I am proud of the outstanding staff we have assembled to work with the children attending Ralph Askins.  It takes all adults in a school working together to create a positive climate for children and, I believe, we are blessed with our cooks, custodians, paraprofessionals, teachers, and a secretary who work in unison daily to create this type of environment.

I encourage you to take an active role in your child’s education.  With a “school triangle” connecting parents, children, and teachers we have a greater chance of ensuring success for these children.  We have active PTO.  I encourage your involvement in this organization as well.

Best wishes for a productive school year.  Please feel free to contact me by phone at school (433-5311 or 433-4319) or come by to visit me in the office.

Sincerely,

Joel M. Hastings
