Uniform Conduct Regulation

 

So all teachers will be able to handle routine disciplinary problems in a uniform manner, we have established a list of some conduct violations for which students will be held accountable. Corrective measure will be determined by the teacher according to the severity of the situation.


A. Lack of cooperation or respect
B. Vulgar or unacceptable language
C. Cutting lunch line, failing to return trays, or leaving trash on table
D. Being out of class without permission
E. Failing to bring in class assignment
F. Being a disturbing influence
G. Chewing gum inside the building
H. Running, pushing, or shoving in classrooms, halls, or on the way to board the bus
I. Inappropriate loudness
J. Cheating or misrepresentation

In cases involving more serious infractions of school rules and regulations, teachers have been instructed to bring those students to the office.


Fighting

Fighting will result in very severe disciplinary action. The nature of punishment will be determined by the degree of involvement of each individual. The one who makes the initial physical contact shall be considered the one most responsible. At school or any school related activity, no form of bullying, taunting, or intimidation by students is acceptable and may result in suspension.


Bus regulations are as follows
A. Observe the same conduct as in the classroom
B. Be courteous; use no profane language
C. Do not eat or drink on the bus
D. Keep the bus area clean
E. Cooperate with the driver
F. Do not smoke or use any tobacco products
G. Do not be destructive
H. Stay in your seat

Corporal Punishment

Corporal punishment may be used by the faculty according to school board policy.


Study Hall

As the name suggests, a study hall is a place to work and study, not a place for students to play. Such things as talking, sleeping, chewing gum, playing games, boisterous activity, etc. will not be tolerated. Students are required to bring books to study hall each day. Time will be used in preparation or completion of class assignments.


Assemblies - Activities

Students are expected to demonstrate self-discipline at all times in behavior at school and school sponsored activities. Students are expected to adjust their behavior according to the situation. Impudence, profanity- , dishonesty, disorderly conduct, and disregard for authority will not be tolerated. Students must assume the responsibility for knowing what is acceptable and what is unacceptable. Assigned seating will be used during assemblies.


Care Of Building

This building is yours to live in while you attend school. We have a beautiful building, but it can only stay beautiful if we take care of it. Help keep the building and grounds free of damage and litter. A school is judged by its cleanliness. Keep our school free from writing on the walls, desks, etc. YOUR HELP IS APPRECIATED.


Damage To School Property

Students and their parents shall be held responsible for damage to equipment or school property including books, supplies, furniture and building. The administration will assess a proper amount for such damages. A receipt will be issued when payment is made.


Gambling

Gambling in any form or possession of any gambling device is prohibited.

Dress Code

All students and employees are expected to dress appropriately for school. Dress should be modest and shall in no way interfere with the learning process, safety, or well being of self or others.

IN MATTERS OF OPINION REGARDING "APPROPRIATE" DRESS, THE JUDGEMENT OF THE ADMINISTRATION SHALL PREVAIL.

Clothing

1. Shorts, dresses, skirts, etc. must be no shorter than approximately three (3) inches above the knee.

2. If tank tops, mesh tops, sheer tops, or strap-type tops/dresses are worn, they must be worn over or under shirts.

3. Pants, shorts, skirts, etc. must be worn at the waistline.

4. Clothing must be within approximately one size of the student’s actual size.

5. No sagging or baggy pants may be worn.

6. No clothing or accessories that advertise alcohol, tobacco, drugs, violence, or that bear negative or profane messages will be allowed.

7. No bare midriffs, low necklines, tube tops, extremely tight-fitting or revealing apparel may be worn.

8. No caps, hats, bandannas, sunglasses, headbands, or head covering of any kind may be worn in the building.

Accessories/Jewelry

1. All body piercing jewelry will be limited to the ear.

2. Large chains may not be worn.

3. Drug or weapon medallions may not be worn.

4. Any jewelry that interferes with the schools’ educational environment may not be worn.

Coats/Jackets

1. Long topcoats, such as trench coats and dusters, may not be worn.

2. Coats must be put in lockers immediately upon entering the building.

Backpacks

Students who bring a backpack to school may only use a clear plastic backpack or a mesh backpack.

Shoes

1. Shoes are to be worn at all times.

Symbols

Bringing or wearing symbols which promote racial or social discord or which are related to gang activity is specifically prohibited.

Consequences for failure to follow the system’s dress code

First Offense: Verbal reprimand. Parents will be notified and the child will be allowed to change clothes and remain in the regular school setting.***

Second Offense: The student will be placed in in-school suspension for one (1) school day. Parents will be notified.

Third Offense: The student will be placed in in-school suspension for three (3) school days. Parents will be notified.

Repeated offenses may result in referral to the Disciplinary Committee for placement in the Alternative School.

***On a first offense, if the parent cannot be notified, the student will be placed in in-school suspension until contact with the parent can be made. If necessary, parents will be notified through registered mail.


In-School Suspension and After School Detention

In order to ensure that a productive learning environment exists in the classroom, all students are expected to follow school rules and discipline policies. An in-school suspension program has been implemented which will serve grades 5-9. Placement of students in this Program will be determined by the administrators of the school.


Note: Any student who does not follow the rules in our in school Suspension program will be suspended from school. A meeting will be scheduled with the parents to see about readmitting their child back into the in-school suspension program with the expectation of proper behavior.
Grievance

If a problem cannot be solved at the classroom level, the principal should be contacted.


Alternative School

The alternative school is organized as an option to out-of-school suspension. Length of assignment may vary. Alternative School meets at a different site and operates under very restrictive guidelines.


Suspension

The state law states that any principal of a public school in this state is authorized to suspend a pupil from attendance, from any school activities, or from riding a school bus, for good and sufficient reason including but not limited to:


1. Willful and persistent violation of the rules of the school or truancy
2. Immoral or disreputable conduct or vulgar or profane language
3. Violence or threatened violence against the person of any personnel attending or assigned to any public school
4. Willful or malicious damage to property of said school, or the property of any person attending or assigned to said school
5. Inciting, advising, or counseling of others to engage in any of the acts herein before enumerated
6. Any other conduct prejudicial to good order
7. Marking, defacing or destroying school property
8. Possession of a pistol, gun or firearm or threatening language
9. Possession of a knife, etc.,TCA 39-4901
10. Assaulting a principal or teacher with vulgar, obscene or threatening language
11. Unlawful use or possession of barbital or legend drugs, as defined in Section 5-1 201, Tennessee Code Annotated.

No work will be made up for periods of time missed as a result of suspension, except as stated in the Tennessee Code Annotated 49-1 309, and as approved by the principal. After any suspension of a student, said student may make application for readmission as provided by State school law.
